Have a look at the calender pages to see new courses planned for this year. We will have 4 invited trainers working at Ashleygrove, the usual 1-2-1 sessions and there are also some new evening classes for group work.
If you join our members list you will get regular updates.

One and Two Day Courses These structured days are run for groups for 6-8 clients and should leave you feeling inspired to go off and work with your dog. My invited trainers are all well known in the dog world and will bring you new inspired ideas to add to your own training scheme. Usually charged at £75.00 for one handler and one dog each day, with refreshments and lunch all included. NEW TRAINER -Adem Fehmi will be spending his first day with us this year. As this is a new course at Ashleygrove it will be offered at a reduced daily rate. Check out the calender page for March.
One to One sessions
For just you and your dog last for approx.1 hour, are charged at £25.00 and currently are held on Monday, Tuseday, Wednesday and Thursday and Saturday mornings. (Training during the shooting season is restricted due our commitments working our dogs.)
Your first session will be mostly an assessment of your relationship with your dog, and the level of training you have reached. You will be given tips to improve your work with your dog and invited to book a further session when you feel ready.

We can offer puppy sessions to get you on the right track while you are bringing up your young pup and then move on to more structured training later. The puppy sessions are suitable from about 4 months old, and structured training begins from about 6 months, depending on the development of your dog.
Avis is happy to visit you at home if you live no more than 10 miles form Welwyn. This is sometimes useful for help with problems in the home and for anyone who dosen't drive. The charge for home visits is £50.00 for approx. 1 hour including travel and a short telephone follow-up consultation if required.
We are also able give private tuition to reach the standards for the Gundog Club's graded assessments.
Above are a group of successful Students after passing their Gundog Club grades at Ashleygrove.
We can help with learning new skills in more advanced gundog work. We accept pedigree gundogs and first crosses and sprockers, springadors, and spoodles can join in. Many of the clients who attend sessions don't intend to take their dogs out in the shooting field but often get converted by the time spent at at Ashleygrove Gundogs. Even if you are not interested in shooting you may feel you would like to enter working test or field trial competitions, with your nicely trained dog, and this is a good starting point for that too (although any Kennel Club run event requires your dog to be registered). Maybe you would just like a well behaved dog and for that dog to have some fun. These sessions could be for you.
The Gundog Club offer an assessment for you to check the standard you have reached and these can be booked direct. If you pass the assessment you will receive a certificate and rossette.
During the Summer months we have some group evening sessions for novices, which are advertised on the calander page. These are available to those who have already done some puppy training and would like to work their dog alongside others and build a training schedule for their dog.

Our training ground is purpose built and we can offer secure paddocks with distractions, jumps, and retreiving lanes. Your dog will be safe while off lead and, should you wish, you can hire the ground on an hourly rate of £10. This service is only available to individuals and their own dogs who are already acquainted with us through training.
Invited Trainer Days
This video was made just for fun for a trainee who attended one of our invited trainer weekends, but it does demonstrate one of the stuctured exercises set up by Steve Kimberley.
Each year we try to run courses to encourage you further with your training. This year we have invited trainer days and weekends, a spaniel day and a shoot experience day. These are usually well received and get booked up fast. If you think you would like to be considered please go to the 'contact us' page to register your enquiry.
SHOOTING SEASON 2010/2011
Next pheasant shooting season I have the oppurtunity to take clients out with me on one of the small shoots where I pick up with my dogs. You will be able to see what happens on a shoot day with me, and my team of pickers-up, behind eight or nine paying guns. The places will be very limited, and again I will give priority to those who are training with me, but please feel free to register your interest via the 'contact us' page. The charge for this service is £60.00 and you bring your own lunch. Transport is provided for the day as we will be off road!
